About This Spot

Stepping into El Presidente feels like being welcomed into a familiar, well-loved corner of Covington. The space carries a humble, unpretentious charm that instantly invites you to slow down and enjoy the moment. While the building may reflect years of stories and character, it’s the warmth of the staff that truly shapes the atmosphere here — friendly faces serving up quick, attentive service with easy smiles that make you feel right at home.

The pace is relaxed, a spot where locals gather to chat over shared plates and vibrant margaritas without hurry. The air hums with the comfort of good company and casual conversation, making it a favored neighborhood spot where you come for more than just a meal.

El Presidente’s kitchen turns out flavors that speak of tradition and heart, where the seasoned meats and freshly fried tortillas mingle with the bright freshness of cilantro and subtle hints of spice. Whether you’re savoring a juicy Steak Ranchero or mixing a fresh pico with crispy chips, there’s an honest simplicity to the food that feels like a personal invitation to enjoy the everyday pleasures of Mexican cuisine. The jumbo margaritas and spirited drinks add a festive touch to the experience without overwhelming the warmth of this welcoming space.

Here, you’ll notice the genuine care in the details — from the lightly crisped chips to the creamy queso that’s clearly made with pride, each bite feels like a quiet celebration of good flavors and good company. El Presidente may not dazzle with flashy interiors, but its heart is evident in every plate served and every friendly nod from the kitchen to your table.

I Have been here more than a few times. The service has always been top notch. The building is very outdated, but the kind employees make the atmosphere a great place to eat.. Overall I rate it 5 out of 5.

Ordered the burrito deluxe ( 2 burritos, chicken and beef, smothered in cheese sauce) and an unsweet tea. Chips and drink came out fast to start. Chips and salsa - salsa is mild to bland, ask for the tomatillo salsa to mix and spice it up. The burritos took a little while considering the meats seemed to be in a pot to be scooped and thrown together. Beef is taco style meat. Chicken is shredded and seasoned. Was not brought a refill for my tea. Restaurant was moderately busy. Price was great for what was served. This restaurant is not into gouging looking through the menu. Suggestion to the restaurant- bring a tomatillo cup with the chips and salsa.

Great location, directly next to a motel which I'm sure is handy for travelers. The food is absolutely delicious! Even the chips are fried perfectly, light and crispy with a salsa that is clearly not from a jar. Vibrant vegetables and clean bright green cilantro add just enough sweetness to the mix and the queso wonderfully thick. Also there very well seasoned and melt-in-your-mouth tender. Service was well above average all the way from placement of the order to the bussing. The entire team was on point and the prices were low enough to leave room for a decent tip. I enjoyed the rustic Mexican look of the place and the radio was playing an all Spanish station at just the right level.

The best mexican food we have ever had, period. The price is super reasonable and didn't make us feel bad about ordering a lot. The service is splendid and the staff is very kind and the food came out in under 10 minutes. The food itself was AMAZING!! The portion sizes are super big for the price! I reccomend the specialty dips and the biraria tacos!
